SHAPING HEARTS

Hearts are encouraged to love God; to build others up, to engage in meaningful, long-lasting relationships; and to develop Christ-like character.

SHAPING MINDS

WHAT WE KNOW, WHAT WE LOVE, WHAT WE THINK

Academic excellence that is grounded in eternal truth and built through knowledge acquired and applied. Students learn through curiosity and confidence, exploration and discovery, facts and fundamentals, humility and growth.

SHAPING futures

TO BECOME WHO GOD HAS DESIGNED US TO BE

Students are guided and nurtured towards their future as they navigate success and failure, friendship and identity, challenge and development, knowledge and faith. They are given a solid foundation to build a successful future.

03 | STUDENT LIFE

The school was started in 1956 by Doris Crozier Todd in her home as an outreach of East Maui Baptist Churches. In that initial year, there were only four students, all from Pa'ia and Kuau. After moving briefly to lower Pa'ia in the late 1950's, the school moved, in 1961, to its present location on Baldwin Avenue in Pa'ia.

In 1965, the school's name was changed from the Pa'ia Baptist Nursery and Kindergarten, to its present name in memory of its founder, Doris Crozier Todd, who was suddenly called home to be with her Lord. A few years later, Dr. Edward Todd married Mabel Sharples. The Todd's continued the committed work of the school's Founder and played an important role in the growth and expansion of the school. Currently, the school serves over 230 students from preschool through the 12th grade.

KINDERGARTEN

I have been teaching Kindergarten here at Doris Todd Christian Academy since the fall of 2006. I am originally from Dryden, Ontario, Canada. I had the opportunity to teach 1st Grade in Nova Scotia, Canada before moving to Maui. I received my Elementary Education degree from Oklahoma Baptist College in OKC and have taken many continuing education courses from Fresno Pacific University during my years teaching Kindergarten. I received my teacher certification through ACSI.

I am currently attending Hope Chapel North Shore where I am involved in the music ministry as well as helping in the audio and visual ministry. Being involved in regular home group/Bible studies has been a great joy each week. I also have the opportunity to host a youth girl’s Bible study and love getting to spend time with them and invest in their lives.
I enjoy living on Maui and am still in awe of the beauty of God’s creation!!! Getting to spend time at the beach, hiking, and going for walks are some of my favorite activities, however it is the people that God has put in my life that I enjoy the most. Spending time with people, no matter what we are doing, is special to me.

I absolutely LOVE Kindergarten!!! While I do not have my own kids, each year God gives me a new group of His kids that He entrust in my care. It is such a gift to see the growth that happens each year and how excited Kinder kids are to learn. Teaching here at Doris Todd is really special because each student and their family becomes part of the bigger family here.

Philosophy

The foundation for the philosophy of the school is the Word of God. Accepting its authority, authenticity, and reliability as God's means of revealing truth, the Bible is the center of every subject taught. Its truth is integrated into all areas of the curriculum, and every part of the curriculum is interpreted and applied from a Christ-centered, Biblical perspective.

There are two very basic and opposing views of life. The Humanistic viewpoint (which is man-centered) sees man as a product of this world, a result of evolutionary processes and human history. The Theistic viewpoint (which is God-centered) sees man as a special creation of God, and seeks to view every dimension of life as God sees it. The contrast in the two viewpoints is vividly portrayed in the concept of man. Humanism declares that man is basically good; the Bible declares that man is a sinner by nature.

The ultimate purpose of our school is to glorify God. It is our desire that each student in our school will come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. And then, through the indwelling work of the Holy Spirit and study of God's Word, they will develop and nurture a Christ-like life so that whatever they do mentally, physically, spiritually, or socially will be governed and controlled by God's leading.
